Meditate On This: Guest Speaker – Mike Williams

This past Sunday, Dr. Mike Williams from Harding University participated in a Q&A in our class hour and delivered the sermon during worship. I am so thankful for the opportunity to get to meet Dr. Williams and hear his message.

Throughout his sermon, Dr. Williams made several wonderful points about the state of the church. This is a familiar for us at Chenal since we have been discussing this for the past several months. But a comment that Dr. Williams made really stood out to me was, at times, “We believe we’re going to solve everything by doing something in 60 minutes.” For me, this is a statement that echoes the teachings of Jesus.

As followers of Christ, we are not committing to follow Jesus only on Sundays, but rather, every day of the week. In our thoughts and in the way that we treat others, the people around us should be able to see the love of Christ. As we encounter our neighbors, co-workers, or strangers, the love, compassion, and mercy of Christ should be evident.

This, friends, is what should make us unique. We are not called to be Sunday morning Christians; rather, Christ calls us into something that costs more. Christ calls us to follow him every single day. In Luke 9:23, Jesus states that if anyone wishes to follow him, “He must deny himself and take up his cross daily.” This way of living is how we reach the world and share the love of Christ with all those we encounter.
