Meditate On This: Hope

The general consensus from many dictionary definitions is that hope is a feeling of expectation, a desire or wish for a certain thing to happen. A biblical definition of hope takes it one step further. Hope is an expectation with certainty that God will do what he has said. One is a wish or desire, the other is a certainty or guarantee.

Certain hope is found in God, the only true source of security. God is a trustworthy, faithful promise keeper and we see this all through scripture, even when mankind heads toward a hopeless path by trying ot be the source of their own security. God gives us certain hope because of who He is. His attributes reinforce that we can find security in Him.

God is:

Holy – Pure; righteous

Omnicient – He knows all things

Perfect – Free of fault or defect

Eternal – Has always been and always will be

When we see God’s promises fulfilled in scripture, we can have confidence in His future promises which are yet to be fulfilled. Revelation 21:5 – “He who was seated on the throne said, ‘I am making everything new!’ Then he said ‘Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.'”

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the holy spirit.” Romans 15:13
